Aluminium Packaging & Recycling Organisation

On the 2nd November 1999 Can-Do attended the ALUPRO Scottish Conference to present a paper on Aluminium Recycling in Rural Communities.
At the end of the presentation Mr Alex Griffin, Alupro Operations Director, presented Mark McDermott and Bob Watson from the Can-Do project, with a special award for outstanding commitment and achievement in aluminium recycling |
Mr Griffin stated, "The participation of community/social projects in aluminium packaging recycling is an important element in increasing recycling rates, the provision of good quality secondary materials and meeting targets. In return, involvement in the activity of aluminium packaging recycling provides such projects with training opportunities, employment and revenue. It follows that community/social projects and aluminium packaging recycling, being such a good 'fit', should go forward together to build better and sustainable futures for all concerned. |
Since Alupro regard the Can-Do Community Project of Fraserburgh as an outstanding model of such projects, it seems entirely appropriate to present this Special Award for outstanding achievement, during 1999, on the occasion of Alupro's Scottish Conference."
Can-Do Community recycling collected an astonishing 22 tonnes of aluminium drinks cans, which have been sold into the aluminium industry's 'closed-loop' recycling process. Aluminium foil collection has been introduced and will be developed with Can-Do's natural enthusiasm and attention to good quality.
