Top Ten Tips
|
If you are thinking of starting your own recycling group then why not benefit from ten years of Can-Do recycling experience and follow our tips. |
|
1 |
From the very beginning be clear about what you want to achieve and why you wish to recycle. The answer to these questions will greatly influence the structure and type of the intended project. |
2
|
Check out who is doing what in your area. The last thing you want to do is upset an established group with unwanted competition. |
3 |
Talk to as many people and organisations as you can about your ideas. It is better to find out now that it will cost you three times as much to transport a material than it is worth! |
4 |
Check on relevant legislation. Most recycling industries have an advisory body or association which will provide help and advice. |
5 |
Agree on roles and responsibilities for group members it will help avoid confusion and arguments later on. |
6 |
Make absolutely sure that a market exists for your recyclable material. You definitely don't want a store full of materials you can't recycle! and will probably have to pay to have removed. |
7 |
Check on all the practical things. Where are you going to store your materials? Do they need to be kept dry? How will you collect and transport them? How will you recycle them? |
8 |
Don't run before you can walk. It is very easy to launch a campaign without being ready to handle the donated materials. Believe me it's no fun being swamped in paper, glass, plastic etc. |
9 |
Keep everyone informed, develop and maintain lines of communication, maintain a record of donations and let sponsors know periodically how much they have donated, it will make them feel good and more likely to stay interested in your project. |
10 |
Make sure you enjoy what your doing and have fun doing it, your project will be far more successful. |
